Coffee Outside is mainly a North American thing. However, there are outposts scattered across the World, participating in this wonderfully simple and delicious activity. I do it whenever I possibly can, with or without a group.
It's simply this. Load your bicycle with your coffee-making gear and a camping stove. Ride to a designated pretty spot such as a dock on a lake, a beach or a pagoda in a park, etc., etc., you get the idea. Here you meet up with other enthusiasts of 'The Bean' and 'The Bicycle' to spend a pleasant hour chewing the breeze, or whatever, before going to work or a group ride even. Depends on the group and what they fancy. The group I used to attend would meet before work on a Friday.
It's really is as simple as that. I like simple things. Bicycles are pretty simple, and I love them. Making coffee on the beach is a simple pleasure I adore. Meeting with like minded people, what's not to like? Especially if they bring home made goodies to share. All-in-all, it's time well spent. AND I got to ride my bike!
The pics below show the three ways I make coffee outside. Daily I use the Aeropress plunger, for the best and smoothest brew IMHO. The red Moka Pot is great if I want a heavier coffee, it's also a bit more compact than the Aeropress, more fun to use and more photogenic! Finally, I'm really getting into making Swedish coffee in the kettle. This makes three cups in one go, great if I have a friend along for the ride. I only use Trangia spirit burners for silent heat set in one of my Firebox stoves. It's all used on a low table which brings everything 4-5 inches off the ground. Seems daft, it's another thing to pack, but it's more hygienic and less gritty this way, and I always get a level work space.
